‘Bullied’ schoolboy, 14, was found hanged in school toilet by his sister as dad calls for headteacher’s resignation
Byron John claims his son was missing for an hour and ten minutes before his sister found him dead in cubicle at St John Lloyd Roman Catholic School in South Wales
THE dad of a bullied boy found dead in a school toilet by his sister has called for the headteacher’s resignation.
Grieving Byron John believes his son, Bradley, would still be alive if more had been done to tackle the 14-year-old’s bullies.
He claims the teen was missing for an hour and ten minutes before his sister found him dead in cubicle at St John Lloyd Roman Catholic School in South Wales.
The 53-year-old told the Mirror: “I’m very unhappy at the way the school has handled things both before Bradley died, on the day it happened and since.
“There was a failure to follow up our concerns and those of the healthcare professionals helping my son.
“I am asking for the head’s resignation along with other teachers who let Bradley down.”
Bradley is said to have been treated for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in the months leading up to his apparent suicide last week.
Mr John, of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, said: “I am asking for his school file containing details of the meetings we had with the school and what action they took against the bullying that was going on.
“The school has also put out misleading statements saying support is in place for Danielle.
“That is an untruth, they have not even picked up the phone to ask how she is.”
Other parents will hold a peaceful protest outside the school gates at noon on Friday while Mr John hands in four separate letters of complaint.
He added: “We are not anarchists, we are concerned parents who want to do things properly.”
Mr John, Master of the Carmarthenshire Hunt until fox hunting was banned in the UK, described Bradley as “the centre of our world”.
He said he is trying support his daughter who is “going through hell” after finding Bradley dead.
Mr John said: “It was her 13th birthday on Wednesday, exactly a week after Bradley died.
“I tried to maintain some degree of normality for her birthday but I failed miserably.
“It will always be her birthday a week after the anniversary of losing her big brother in such a terrible way.”
Carmarthenshire Council said it was aware of the protest and the family’s concerns that Bradley was being bullied.
