On New Year’s Eve, a distraught father pays tribute to his murdered son

Dylan Scanlon, 5, was discovered unresponsive in Elm Road, Oldham, at 6.20pm.

His father, Gary Keenan, shared an emotional farewell message with his son.

‘To my Dylan, I love you more than life itself,' he wrote. You were my best buddy and I will miss you terribly.

‘Sweet dreams and we'll see you later. Love you, Dylan.'

Greater Manchester Police announced a lady in her 30s had been held under the Mental Health Act.

Shawn, Dylan's brother, sent a message on Facebook begging people to ‘stop forming assumptions'.

My brother died and it crushed my heart and my family's but will people stop making assumptions about what happened?

‘Stop posting your weird f comments when our family is hurting and waiting for answers.'

A police spokeswoman said the matter will be submitted to the IOPC owing to ‘previous contact'.

A ‘beautiful young child' taken ‘cruelly' too soon, said neighbours.

‘The boy's mother ran out onto the street and yelled, ‘He can't breathe!'

‘A woman who lives nearby heard the commotion and entered the house.'

Woman found child collapsed on sofa, did CPR but it was too late.

A fundraiser has also been set up to assist Dylan's bereaved family.

Nobody should have to worry about burying their child, but I don't want the family to worry about economics,' said organiser Jayne Street.

‘No family should have to go through this. Please donate anything you can.

Every dollar counts and will help them with funeral fees and other bills that don't disappear when life gets tough.
