-Nigel Sheratt was found dead at his Staffordshire home on Sunday morning

-He was cornered by paedophile hunters on Friday who accused him of grooming

-The 47-year-old allegedly exchanged sexually explicit messages with girl, 14

-But the girl was actually one of the vigilantes who called the police

A man has been found dead at home just days after being targeted in a ‘sting’ video by paedophile hunters.

The body of Nigel Sheratt, 47, was found at a house in Cannock, Staffordshire, on Sunday, just two days after he was stopped by members of vigilante group Soul Survivors while in his car.

The group said they had posed as a 14-year-old girl in Facebook chats with Mr Sheratt and claimed he had tried to groom her.

The group showed him apparent print outs of sexually explicit messages he’d allegedly sent to ‘the girl’ before police were filmed leading him away.

Soul survivors then wrote online that Mr Sheratt had taken his own life on Sunday.

Approached at Mr Sheratt’s home, a relative told the Daily Mail they’d found him dead on Sunday and denied the accusations against him.

Mr Sheratt had called ‘the young girl’ “gorgeous,” said he’d ‘get into trouble for chatting to her’ and asked her ‘what about sex,’ it was alleged by the vigilante group.

In a video shared online, Soul Survivors approach him and tell him “we are a paedophile hunting group” to which he replies, “I’m not one of them”.

When asked “do you like talking to 14-year-old girls,” he says “no”.

But they tell him: “You’ve already been caught, so just admit it.

“The police are on their way.”

Mr Sheratt eventually claimed he didn’t know ‘she’ was 14, despite members of the group reading out apparent messages where ‘she’ told him ‘her age’.

Soul survivors wrote in a post on Sunday: “We’ve had confirmation that that nigel sheratt from cannock unfortunately has taken his own life.

“In what we do this is not an outcome that we look to achieve and only aim to put it into the hands of the police.

“We have seen some angry comments but all we want is for justice to be served …. our hearts go out too his family this is awful news for us as a team. (SIC).”

A police spokesman told Mirror Online: “Staffordshire Police were called to a house on Ascot Drive, Cannock at around 1:40pm on Sunday 5 August where sadly the body of a man was found.

“We are not treating the death as suspicious at this time.

“The death has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previous contact between police and the deceased.”
