Scotland’s LIVE gritter tracker: Where is your local gritter and when will it reach your area?

Where’s Sir Andy Flurry? Keeping track of Scotland’s gritters

Scotland has a set of surprise heroes – in the form of road gritters.

Thanks to social media, Transport Scotland’s fleet of light-flashing, salt-spraying kings of the road have become a bit of a sensation.

Gritty Gritty Bang Bang and Snowball are amongst Scotland’s fleet of gritters out in force tonight making the country’s roads safer for motorists.

Drivers faced long delays as a number of roads were affected by the weather including the A9, M9, M80, A720 M77, M74, A7 and the M73 after snow and ice swept the country.

But working to make roads safer and journeys easier was Scotland’s winter fleet of road gritters who were dispatched to spread salt and plough snow.

A full map of Scotland’s gritter trackers can be accessed via Traffic Scotland’s Trunk Road Gritter Tracker .

Amongst the team of road gritters was Gritty Gritty Bang Bang who was hard at work on the A9 near East Lamberkin, in Perth, as The Winter Explorer concentrated further down the A9 clearing the road near Upper Cairnie.

Snowball concentrated on the M876 near Letham, in Angus, near Forfar, whilst the Snow Destroyer worked tirelessly to clear parts of the M9 near Grangemouth.

Luke Snowalker worked near Ayr and Ice Buster worked on the A77 near Prestiwck as Sprinkles was dispatched to work in Nairn in the Scottish Highlands and Ready Spready was sent to the A96 near Inverness Airport.
