Shameless actress Tina Malone is facing a police investigation and possibly prison after reportedly identifying child killer Jon Venables online, it was claimed.

The TV star, 55, retweeted a Twitter picture which claimed to reveal the new identity of James Bulger’s killer.

Venables is protected by a lifelong anonymity order made in 1993 when he was jailed for murdering James with pal Robert Thompson.

The order prohibits anyone from posting photos they claim to be one of the killers.

The 35-year-old is back in jail after being convicted of having child sex abuse images.

The Mirror revealed how Venables has already had to be moved to a new jail and given another identity after lags in nearby cells circulated a picture of him using mobile phones.

And now Tina faces a police investigation after sharing the image with her 22,000 followers on Twitter.

Breaching the anonymity order can result in a two-year prison sentence.

Last night Tina told the Star on Sunday: “I didn’t have a clue it was illegal.

“What are you going to do… prosecute me for posting a picture? I didn’t realise.

“I am not au fait with the law.”

Venables has already cost taxpayers at least £260,000 in legal aid.

At his new prison he has been urged by managers to stay as anonymous as possible.

A source said: “He’s also been told to try to keep a low profile.”

It is claimed he is being protected by six prison guards amid fears that he could be attacked again.

A source said: “He has to be handled very carefully at all times because there are so many people who want to get at him.”

Venables and his mate Robert Thompson were ten when they tortured and killed two-year-old James after luring him away from his mum at shops in Bootle, Merseyside, in 1993.

They were released on licence eight years later, granted lifelong anonymity and given new identities.

But Venables was jailed for two years in 2010 after he was found with a hoard of child abuse images.

It is believed he has been given new identities, including two after he was caught boasting of his past as a killer.

Last month he was jailed again for 40 months for having 1,000 child porn images, some showing babies.

The sentencing judge called the material “vile” and “heartbreaking” adding that many of his pictures showed abuse of young boys.

Last month it was claimed Venables had boiling water hurled at him by a prisoner who found out his identity.

The lag “went for him” after details of his appearance were “passed on” from inmate to inmate.

Now he has been moved to a new jail for his safety, despite previously being in a segregation unit with other “vulnerable” lags to keep him safe.
